Description

Folio 54. John Sharpe to Andrew Stone, with three petitions from prisoners in Carlisle [Cumberland] gaol sent by crown solicitor Phillip Carteret Webb. Sharpe recounts how cases in the Stafford [Staffordshire] Assizes against Stirling and Moseley were overturned because prosecution witnesses were drunk. He states that Lord Lovat's Coachman and Groom are now crown witnesses against Lovat, and states that his Postillion Boy, Peter Fraser, could be a 'most material witness'. Sharpe says he's looking for witnesses to verify Lovat's handwriting.

Folio 55. Petition from prisoner John Graham, apothecary, seeking a speedy discharge, and recalling that he has not been charged during eight months detention. Dated at Carlisle [Cumberland] Gaol.

Folio 56. Petition from Henry Salkeld, of Whitehall, Cumberland, to Sir Thomas Parker Chief Baron of HM Court of Exchequers, Sir Thomas Burnet, Sir Thomas Dennison, and Charles Clark, seeking a speedy discharge, and recalling that he has not been charged during more than seven months detention.
