To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: W Fossett, Auditor, Granville Park, Blackheath [Kent].
Subject Matter: Letter advising that the Woolwich Local Board of Health, having out of the funds raised by rates under the Local Government Act 1858, have presented the sum of £10 10s 0d to the Metropolis Gas Committee of Enquiry, to aid in opposing a Bill about to be brought forward in Parliament. Fossett explains that he has felt it his duty to object to such a contribution, as being an illegal application of the money raised. The Local Board are said to have referred the subject to their Solicitor, who considers that the payment may be allowed. He requests the opinion of the Local Government Act Office.
