To: The Home Secretary.
From: Thomas Davenport, Secretary of the Poulton-cum-Seacombe Ratepayers Association, Seacombe [Cheshire].
Subject Matter: Letter advising that in a few days the District Auditor will audit the account of the Wallasey Local Board. Davenport requests information as to the specific duties of the Auditor - 'as on the last occasion he refused to go into several items we brought under his notice involving some hundreds of pounds'. Davenport adds that in a recent action brought against the Wallasey Local Board, in which there was a dispute as to certain work done, 'the Board set up the defence that 5 members of the Board had not signed the contract, and consequently they were not liable and overthrew the case'.
