To: Robert Rawlinson, Superintending Inspector, The Local Government Act Office.
From: Wordsworth Harrison, The Lund, Ulverston [Lancashire].
Subject Matter: Letter advising that he has seen what is purported to be a copy of a report by Rawlinson, in which he found the following 'extraordinary expression': - 'In my opinion the Law proceedings which have taken place against the main sewer outlet works ... are most vexatious and unnecessary'. Harrison requests to be informed, as this is a 'direct imputation' against himself, and one which he 'cannot allow to pass unnoticed', whether 'in the face of the Order of the Vice-Chancellor's Courts', Rawlinson still adheres to, and is prepared to defend elsewhere, the accuracy of the remarks quoted. He adds that he was not aware that Rawlinson had been sent to Ulverston to report on legal matters, and submits that it is rather strange that he should have 'so deviated' from his instructions 'as to challenge a decision of the Court of Chancery, given after a fair and impartial hearing'.
