To: The Home Secretary.
From: Robert Rawlinson, Superintending Inspector, The Local Government Act Office.
Subject Matter: Letter advising that the Sewer Authority of Ulverston [Lancashire] intend, ultimately, to clarify sewage by irrigating land - 'the town has not yet been drained and therefore the effluent sewage is very weak and there is some local difficulty in procuring land fit for irrigation at a reasonable price'. Rawlinson explains that Law proceedings have been commenced by a resident Land Owner to compel the Sewer Authority to abate and prevent any nuisance by sewage, and that to comply with such requirements the Sewer Authority wishes to obtain leave to use such portion of the money sanctioned for main sewering purposes as may be necessary to construct an outlet-sewer to the sea - about 2020 yards in length and at an estimated cost of £1155 5s 0d. He states that an Ordnance map of the district showing the proposed outlet has been submitted and has been examined. Rawlinson recommends that sanction is granted to the Sewer Authority to execute the proposed outlet-sewer, in accordance with the map which has been submitted.
