Description

Folios 98-99. John Sharpe, Treasury Solicitor, to [Newcastle] regarding the objections raised by seventeen English [Jacobite] prisoners who have been convicted of high treason and are sentenced to death. The prisoners' defence council raises three objections. These are concerned, in the main, with the specific Act of Parliament which was passed to enable the trials to take place in, for example, Surrey, when the alleged crimes had occurred, for example, in Cumberland. All the objections were overruled by the court and the sentence of death on all seventeen prisoners was upheld.
