The London Transportation Planning Division (LTP) was established in the new Department of the Environment in 1971 out of the former Ministry of Transport London Group, London Policy Division. LTP was responsible for London traffic and transportation in relation to road investment, London Transport executive and British Railways, London & South-East services. LTP was renamed as Greater London Transport Division in the latter part of 1976 when the LTP prefix was discontinued and replaced by GLT.
