From 2000 Treasury
The control of civil service pensions became the responsibility of the Civil Service Department in 1968, inherited from the Treasury's Pay and Management Group. The Superannuation group was responsible for administering the statutory scheme for civil service pensions and gratuities and ensuring it was properly applied in individual cases. It gave advice on modifications to the scheme and implemented the changes taking into account good practice outside and developments in the State pension scheme.
In 1981 responsibility for civil service monetary conditions of service, including policy responsibility for the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme (the PCSPS), reverted to the Treasury; in 1996 responsibility for the PCSPS passed to the Cabinet Office.
