This series comprises records of the acquisition and dissemination of economic intelligence having a major influence on the development and conduct of the UK's foreign and trade policies. All surviving records will be preserved in accordance with the PRO Acquisition Policy paragraphs 2.2.1.2 and 2.2.1.3.

On 1 April 1968 the Joint Intelligence Committee was redesignated as JIC (A), and the former Economic Intelligence Steering Committee of the Cabinet was redesignated JIC (B).
JIC (B) assumed responsibility for assembling, evaluating and presenting economic and non-military scientific and technical intelligence, in succession to the Economic Intelligence Steering Committee. It was chaired by the Treasury and the Cabinet Office provided the secretariat. The membership comprised: Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Overseas Development Administration, Ministry of Defence Intelligence Staff, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Department of Trade and Industry, Export Credits Guarantee Department, Bank of England, 'C', GCHQ, the Intelligence Co-ordinator, and the Chairman JIC (A).
The JIC(B) was dissolved effective 30 September 1974 and its responsibilities passed to the new Overseas Economic Intelligence Committee (OEIC).
