The Health Service Personnel Division was set up around 1973 as a successor to the National Health Service Re-organisation Division. Its functions were similar in that it had responsibility for all personnel and policy matters concerning National Health Service staff.
The division remained in existence until 1983 when it changed its name to Health Service Management and Personnel Division. In the following year, a National Health Service Directorate for Wales was set up into which the division was moved.
