Selection and destruction information

All protocols and ratifications of treaties which come into force are selected, under Acquisition Policy criteria 2.2.1.3, documenting formal agreements between the UK and other states.

Administrative / biographical background

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office Treaty Section (at the time part of the Records and Historical Department) reorganised its holdings and arrangement of treaties and ratifications in 2000-2001 to incorporate a new database. The former distinction between European Community, multi- and bi-lateral treaties was ended, and ratifications were held as part of the same series. As a result the various earlier FO treaty series were closed, and all new treaties coming into force from February 2001 will be found in this series.
