Documents related to the case of John Burnet [Burnett] of Campsfield [Aberdeenshire], a [Jacobite] prisoner in New Gaol, Southwark, [Surrey], convicted of High Treason, a man with wife and five young children. Filed with:
Folio 64. Royal petition for clemency from Burnet saying he was forced to join the rebels by 'Glenbucket's men', before accepting a Captain's commission.
Folio 65. Declaration of Burnet's good character, signed by James Lumsden, min [minister] at Towie [Aberdeenshire], and 15 others.
Folio 66. Attestation from John Murray of Blackbarronie [Black Barony, Peeblesshire], that Burnet had paid for the use of his horses and other requisitioned items as the rebels were marching to England. Dated 7 October 1746 at Darnhall [Peeblesshire].
Folio 66. Attestation by James Burnet of [Barns, Peeblesshire] that Burnet 'behaved him selfe' while in the county. Dated 9 October 1746 at [Barns].
