Copy of letter from James Baillie [Baylie, merchant, late of Rotterdam, Netherlands, now at Migdale and Miltown, Milton, Ross-shire] to Sir John Gordon, claiming locals were grateful for Earl of Cromertie's command of the Jacobite army and protection from 'lawless bandits'. Recalls rebel attempting to burn House of Balnagowan [Balnagown Castle, Ross-shire], an act thwarted when the gardener Alexander Sangster obtained protection from Cromartie. Dated at Milntown.
