Extract of letter from John Gorry to Duke of Newcastle, describing Barrisdale's anger towards [Earl of] Cromertie, his orders to his men to commit outrages in Ross-shire and Sutherland 'to render Lord Cromertie odious to his neighbours', and his declaration that the Battle of Culloden was lost 'owing to Cromertie's conduct'. Describes Cromertie's son Lord [John] McLeod being forced to travel to prison in Inverness while unwell, despite Lady Sutherland's pleas. Details of 15 April 1746, when Barrisdale, Glengyle, and the MacGregors, lodged with Kincraig, Beton and Gorry around InverGordon [Ross-shire] and Kincraig [Inverness-shire?]. Barrisdale intended to burn Gorry's house. Mentions Dingwall [Ross-shire], Ferrindonel [Ferindonald, Inverness-shire, Skye?], Bridge at Allness [Ross-shire], Strathnaver [Sutherland]. Dated at Invergordon.
