Folios 79-84. William Davies to [Andrew] Stone, recounting his imprisonment in irons, first by the [Jacobite] rebels in Derby [Derbyshire], and then by the government in Newgate [Prison, London]. Mentions the support of Lord [Henry Arthur] Herbert. Dated at Deptford [Kent, Surrey]. Enclosures:
Folio 81-82. Petition for relief from William Davies, late of the Royal Navy, describing the role of [Samuel] Maddox, an officer of the Manchester Regiment, who turned evidence for the Crown at the trials or rebels in [St Margaret's Hill], Southwark, [Surrey]. Though Newcastle recommended him for a commission in Governor of Jamaica Edward Trelawny's regiment, ill-health left Davies unable to take it up. Mentions the Earl of Powis.
