Description

Folios 48-54. Further examination of [Jacobite] John Murray of Broughton mainly concerning Lord Lovat. Refers to meeting Lord Traquair and Cameron of Lochiel, and Lovat's promissory note; Fraser of Gortuleg urging Lovat to join rebellion after Prestonpans; Fraser's meeting with 'Pretender's son' [Charles Edward Stuart] in August 1745 at Glengarry's house; Letter 'number VII' offering Lovat command of rebel army, dated 2 January 1746 from Broughton, Lochiel and Clunie MacPherson; Lovat's commissions from 'James R' [James Francis Edward Stuart]; Lovat's desire to be created a duke; Hay filling-in as secretary to [Charles Edward Stuart]; Lovat's proposal to Lochiel, Barrisdale and young Clanronald to obtained terms for themselves after Culloden; meeting at Doctor Cameron's former house in?Glendishry; Sir John Douglas's visit at Bannockburn [Stirling] in January 1745, mentioning Lumsden, Charles Stewart of Appin [Argyll], servants John Baine and Trogg, and James Gibb, [Charles Edward Stuart's] clerk. Taken before Andrew Stone. Two copies, first at folio 48-49 is incomplete.
