Description (What the record is about)
-
Folios 39-40. Copy of letter from Colin MacKenzie, Minister of Fodderty [Ross-shire] to Sir John Graham. Claims Lord Cromartie was falsely accused of the worst actions of Jacobites, particularly losses sustained by the Monroes [Munros]. Claims Colonel MacDonnel burnt two of Lord Fortrose's tenants' houses in Strathcannin [Strathcarron, Ross-shire?], leaving tenants no choice but to join Rebellion. Munro of Novar's house [Ross-shire] was burnt in revenge for a Kennedie [Kennedy] who was killed by locals. Claims Obsdale's house was not burnt, but plundered and smashed by Frasers or MacDonnels, angry that Munro of Culcairn [Ross-shire] had accompanied Lord Loudon at Lord Lovat's capture. Says Cromertie protected Fowlis [Castle, Angus], and estimates that few of his tenants joined the rebellion.
