Folios 1-70. Printed tract entitled Genuine Memoirs of John Murray Esquire [of Broughton], Late Secretary to the Young Pretender [Charles Edward Stuart]. Outlines Murray's impressions of Charles Edward Stuart's character and actions, with details of their first meeting and the reasons Murray supported him. Also covers the development of the Rebellion and actions of significant participants, including: Lords Elcho, Gordon and Strathallan, Cameron of Lochiel and the Marquis of Tullibardine, also others involved in discussions and negotiations about the rebellion, including Jean Frédéric Phélypeaux de Maurepas and Cardinal Fleury. Discusses the relationship between the French court and supporters of the Stuarts. Details Murray's circumstances and experiences after defeat. Pamphlet includes printed 'Remarks' on the first part of the text from 'Edward', questioning and criticising the motivations of the author; 'Edward' also gives reasons why monarchs of the British Isles do not reign solely by 'right'. Printed for J. Wilford, at the Three Flower-de-luces in Fleet-Lane [London], over against the Old Bailey. Two copies. Title page of first copy endorsed: 'Bought 13 February 1747 at Mrs Nutt's at the Royal Exchange [London] J James', and 'This pamphlet Judith James swore to before me', and initialled [by Thomas Waite]. Second copy endorsed: 'Bought at Mrs Kinsman's near the Royal Exchange 13 February 1747 Peter Beck', and This pamphlet Peter Beck swore to before me', and initialled [by Thomas Waite].
