Petition for mercy of James Lindsay, formerly a shoemaker at Perth [Perthshire], now a prisoner at New Gaol, Southwark [Surrey] sentenced to death for High Treason, at St Margaret's Hill [Southwark [Surrey] in October [1746]. Describes how the [Jacobite] rebels requisitioned his stock of shoe, his efforts to obtain redress from them at Edinburgh, his forcible recruitment there into Lord Kilmarnock's squadron of Horse, and his later removal from the house of a Perth brewer, John Malcolm, by and Irish officer, Captain Gold. Mentions a wife and 'several' children.
