Folios 68-69. Examination of David Fubbister [Fubister, Fabister, Fabbister] stating that [the Jacobite] Lady [Anne] Stewart of Borra [Burray], Orkney, had offered him money to enlist for 'the prince' [Charles Edward Stuart] with her husband Sir James Stewart in Caithness, and also to reinstate him on a farm on the Earl of Moreton's land. Claims his refusal met with a threat of physical violence. Recalled his birth in Stainmister, Mainland, Orkney. Filed with:
Folios 70-71. Examination of Murdon Kennedy stating how Lady Steward had sought to recruit him as her Lieutenant [for the Jacobite cause], which he refused, his discussions on the subject with James Rennaird of Borwich, in south Borra, and his knowledge that she had also tried to enlist Fubbister.
Folio 72. Examination of William Campbell who said he'd heard that Lady Stewart had tried to enlist her servants, including Fubbister. Mentions minding Sir James Stewart's cattle on the island of Floter [Flotta, Orkney].
Folios 73-74. Examination of Alexander Flat [Flett] stating that he heard her promise money to any man who would serve 'the Prince' in the rebellion, but that he believes none were recruited.
Folios 75-76. Examination of Magnus Chalmers concerning her attempt, which he refused, to recruit him for [Jacobite] service. States that he then lived in South Ranus.
Folios 77-78. Examination of Arthur Woolridge stating that he regarded Lady Stewart as a 'very peaceable and quiet woman', had not heard of her attempts to enlist men for the Pretender's service, but admitted setting out for Caithness with Sir James Stewart who had 'a white cockade to wear in his bonnet'
