Folio 61-64. Report from Attorney General [Dudley Ryder] to Duke of Newcastle concerning the merits of a claim by Charles Douglas to the title Lord Mornington, and the implications for his trial [as a Jacobite] for treason. Dated at Lincoln's Inn Fields [London, Middlesex].
Folios 65-66. Mordington to Duke of Newcastle, appealing for clemency, protesting that he is being kept 'on straw and in irons among the meanest prisoners'. Dated 3 January 1747 at Carlisle Castle [Cumberland].
Folio 67. Mordington's petition. Dated 3 January 1747 at Carlisle Castle.
Folios 68-69. Mordington to [unknown] concerning his efforts to claim his title, his detention after being suspected of being 'a priest, a spy, and even the Pretender', and his examination by Henry Houghton. Praises the castle governor, and urges 'any small charity' for the prisoners who must otherwise 'inevitably perish for want of clothes, linen, and other necessaries'. Dated 25 March 1746 at Lancaster Castle [Lancashire].
