Description

Folios 94-103. Further examination of John Murray of Broughton [Secretary to Charles Edward Stuart], alongside the contradictory evidence of the Earl of Traquair, Sir John Douglass [Dougless, Douglas], and Doctor Barry, mainly concerning [Jacobite] links to France 1740-1745, in the presence of the Lord Chancellor [Hardwicke], Duke of Newcastle, Earl of Chesterfield, and [Henry] Pelham.

Touches on Drummond alias McGregor's visit to Rome [Italy] and Paris; a memorial for Cardinal Fleury promising a Scottish rebellion on a French invasion, signed by Lord Perth, Lord Lovat, Cameron of Lochiel, Lord John Drummond the elder, Sir James Campbell of Auchterbright, Traquair and his brother Mr Stuart; meeting Cluny Macpherson in Edinburgh; rumours of Murray in the West Indies; [French secretary of state for foreign affairs Jean-Jacques] Amelot [de Chaillou's] promise of French troops; Lord Traquair's talks in London with Lord Barrymore, Sir John Hind [Hynde] Cotton and Sir Watkin Williams Wynn and their ambivalent support for 'the Pretender'; Murray's meeting with Douglass at Bannockburn Castle [Stirlingshire] during the Siege of Stirling Castle [Stirlingshire]; £10,000 collected for 'the Pretender' in London; Douglass' introduction to Sir Thos [Thomas] Sheridan; Douglass' silence upon examination; 'one [Andrew] Cockburn, an hosier', of Johnson's Court, Charing Cross [London, Middlesex]; Barry's address in Craven Street [London, Middlesex]; English pilots requested for Dieppe; Grey Dragoons; Barry's use of a secret alias 'Moor', and receipt of letters from Paris from 'Mallet'.
