Folios 80-81. Letter from W Drummond, surgeon and prisoner in Newgate [London], to [unknown], appealing against his continued detention. He outlines his activities in Flanders, his attempts to obtain a 'surgeoncy' in Lieutenant General Handasyde's [?Handyside] regiment, and subsequent engagement as an assistant surgeon to the Hospital in Cape Breton [Nova Scotia, Canada] by David Middleton, Director General to the British Hospitals. Drummond then describes his detention by the messenger Mr Ward on suspicion of 'assisting a young Gentlemen in making his escape', his examination by [Andrew] Stone and [Thomas] Ramsden, and, a quarrel arising with Mr Ward after hearing word of the Duke of Newcastle ordering his release. Recounts how he was detained in Newgate after a mass escape attempt from Mr Ward's house, mentioning his cell-mate Mr Parsons. Also mentions Mr Rigg, a shoemaker, of Duke Court. Dated at Newgate.
