Description

Folios 74-76. Jno [John] Sharpe to [Andrew Stone] enclosing a 'slate of French prisoners with the dates of their commission' [not filed here], his daily report on [Jacobite trials] at St Margaret's Hill [Southwark, Surrey] [not filed here], and a memorial from Captain Nugent, of Dillon's regiment, now in Marshalsea prison [Surrey]. Enclosure:

Memorial of Ed [Edward] Nugent for the duke of Newcastle's permission to go out of doors from time to time to recover his health. Describes himself as 'prisoner of war'. The memorial was addressed, initially, to Thomas Whit, London.

Folio 77-78. Jno [John] Sharpe's report [to the Duke of Newcastle] on acquittal [at St Margaret's Hill, Southwark, Surrey] of Mr Glascoe, a major in Lord Ogilvie's 2nd battalion, who rested his defence on being a native of France, and the Cartel of Frankfurt [governing the treatment of prisoners of war]. Evidence, by Captain [Stratford] Eyre [of Tilbury Fort, Essex], that he was in Dillon's regiment. Recommend that Glascoe be transferred to the Marshalsea prison [Surrey] where most French officers are held. Glascoe is son of Christopher Glascoe, who left Ireland [for France] under the Treaty of Limerick. Also mentions forthcoming trial of Alexander Buchanan, captain in Perth's regiment, and King's bench hearing of Mr Radcliffe.
