Description

Folios 2-3. Don Campbell to [unknown] concerning a 'gathering amongst the clans' and their willingness to press on with the [Jacobite] rebellion, quoting a 'gentleman that was present at their meeting in Lochiarkaig' which was attended by Young Lochiel, Young Clanranald of Moydart, Cluny McPherson, McDonald of Lochgerry,?Colonel of Glengary, Baristill,?Colonel Ray Stewart, Secretary [John] Murray, and a deputy from Lord Lovat. Says they have support from France and Spain and £40,000, and that they plan to attack parts of Argylshire. Reports that 'their Prince' [Charles Edward Stuart] is in Lewis, and that Colonel O'Sulivan landed there with French ships. Also writes of receiving a note from the recipient via Lieutenant McKenzie at Dunstafnage, and mentions the Duke of Perth, Duke of Argyle, and Sir Duncan Campbell.
