Folios 9-10. Mayor of Newcastle, [Upon Tyne, Northumberland, Cuthbert Smith] to [Duke of Newcastle] regarding the plans of the keelmen to rise in [Jacobite] rebellion and seize Newcastle. In post script, gives first reaction to news of the Battle of Culloden. Enclosing:
Folio 11. [Sir Edward] Blacket [or Blackett] to Smith warning of a planned uprising by Newcastle's keelmen. Dated 11 April 1746 at Hexham [Northumberland].
Folio 12. Affidavit of Corporal William Wright, of Captain Hamilton's company, and Andrew Daniel of Colonel Stanwix's company, in the regiment of the Marquess of Granby, describing a confrontation with keelmen at the Sandgate, mentioning John Smith.
