Folios 92 and 94A. W Bell,?Nathaniel Hills and Charles Allix, Commissioners for Sick and Wounded, to Thomas Ramsden. Requesting directions for the subsistence of 51 prisoners committed to Canterbury [Kent] gaol by Commodore Knowles. Also requesting information about prisoners being moved to Rochester [Kent] and Maidstone [Kent]. Dated at the Office for Sick and Wounded Seamen. Enclosure:
1. Folios 93-94. Copy. N Hawes, surgeon and agent at Rochester, to Commissioners for Sick and Wounded. Lieutenant Colonel Dunbar cannot give up rebel [Jacobite] prisoners in Rochester without orders from Secretary of War, as they were received by orders from General Sinclair. They will be moved from the town gaol to make space for prisoners due at the Assizes. Dunbar believes the prison is secure enough to hold prisoners of war, but not the deserters. Dunbar also wishes to be reimbursed for money he has disbursed while in Rochester. Dated 11 March 1746.
