Folios 99-100. Marshal Wade to Newcastle. Details of troops sent to General Hawley at Edinburgh. Scots Fusiliers and Sempill's regiment will be at Newcastle [Northumberland] on 6 January. St George's Dragoons sent to Bishop Auckland [County Durham] and Hexham [Northumberland]. Informed that many 'Highlanders' deserted rebels [Jacobites]; the rest are pillaging Glasgow. Duke of Montagu's horse quartered at Barnard Castle [County Durham], Wade's horse at Richmond [Yorkshire]; could return south, as no more cavalry can be subsisted in Scotland. Wade proposes leaving Lieutenant General Wentworth in charge at Newcastle. Dutch generals pressing for money to pay for quarters. [Carried] 'by Lucas' [messenger]. Dated at Newcastle.
