Folios 51-53. Field Marshal Wade to Newcastle. Received word of [Duke of Cumberland's] success against rebels [Jacobites] at Carlisle [Cumberland]. Remaining two battalions will march for Scotland tomorrow, joined by Lieutenant General Hawley. French drummer sent by Lord John Drummond claims he was forced to embark from Dunkirk [France]. Colonel Frazer's companies will guard Newcastle [Northumberland]. Awaiting return of dragoons, regiments and artillery from Cumberland. Intelligent person must replace Lieutenant General Wentworth if he is relieved of duties. [Carried] 'by Lambe' [messenger]. Dated at Newcastle. Enclosure:
1. Folio 54. Marshal Wade's answer to Lord John Drummond's drummer. Can receive no message from a subject in rebellion against the King.
