Folios 34 and 40. Swynfen Jervis to Andrew Stone. Dated at Meaford [Staffordshire]. Enclosures:
1. Folios 35-37 and 39. Examination of Robert Hamilton, linen draper and rum dealer. Born in Combes-Nethen [Cambusnethan], Lanarkshire. Travelled to England on business in November and December 1745; names places and people he visited. States he saw rebels [Jacobites] at Stockport [Cheshire]; was looking for William Hamilton, who had been seen with rebels. Has not had recent correspondence with anyone in Edinburgh, nor carried messages while in England. Taken before John Jervis. Seal. Dated in Staffordshire, 27 December 1745.
2. Folio 38. Walter and John Ewer to Robert Hamilton. Acknowledges receipt of two bills. Account of sale of a box of old lace. Cannot send bills to Scotland until rebels are dealt with. Postscript states Hamilton has been imprisoned on suspicion of high treason. Dated at London, 26 November 1745.
