Folios 32-33. John Maule to [unknown]. Returning packet of intercepted letters on behalf of Duke of Argyle. Letter found in Lord Perth's portmanteau was from Lady Middsdale to her Catholic husband, pressing him to join [Jacobite] rebellion. Letter from McDonald of Barisdeal [Barrisdale], in packet from General Handasyd, mentions McLeod and Lord Lovat promising to join rebellion. Letter from Sir James Stewart (grandson of Lord Advocate of Scotland) tells Lady Francis Stewart (Lord Elcho's sister) to hold letters marked with a cross in front of a fire. Dated at Argyll Street [London, Middlesex].
