Folios 30-31. Charles Hoskins, Denzil Onslow and Samuel Atkinson (Deputy Lieutenants of Surrey) to Lord Richard Onslow, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. Searched house of Lady Petre at Cheam [Surrey] for arms. Joseph-Morgan Hansby discovered in concealed part of the house; imprisoned on suspicion of being a 'Popish' priest. With copy of examination of Hansby, born in Tickhill, Yorkshire. Catholic services being held in Chapel at Lade Petre's house. Confesses to being a 'Papist' but refuses to say if he is a priest. Refused to take oath of allegiance. Taken before Samuel Atkinson and Joseph Willough, Justices of the Peace. Dated 23 December 1745.
