Folios 46-47. Report of Sir Simon Urlin, Recorder of London. Concerning Hugh Catherall (or Catteral), convicted at Old Bailey Sessions on 24 April 1745 for impersonating Robert Catherall, carpenter in Islington, Middlesex. James Wimble, captain of the private ship Revenge, seized goods from the Humility, commanded by John Westman of Sweden; Sir Henry Penrice at the Court of Admiralty ordered Wimble to pay bail of £1000, for damages and expenses. On 27 September 1744, Hugh agreed to pay Wimble's bail using Robert's name. Dated at London. Enclosure:
1. Folio 48-49. Petition of Robert Catterall [?incorrectly labelled] to Lords of the Regency. Found guilty of indictment; sentenced to stand in the Pillory and be imprisoned in Newgate gaol for three years. Requesting sentence mitigated to a free pardon, due to his age (nearly 70) and his wife. Signed by: William Willson; Thomas Jones; Edward Price; James Willson; William Hawkins; George Gent; William Adams; William Brown; Robert Ball; James Hall. With note referring petition to Urlin, signed Thomas Ramsden, dated at Whitehall [Middlesex] on 22 August 1745.
