Folios 17-18. Examination of James Dowdall, at the Chequer Inn in Holborn [Middlesex]. Left County Sligo in Ireland aged 17. Took Master of Arts degree in Seville [Spain] and ordained as a priest. Professor at Grasse [France] and Lisbon [Portugal]. Worked for Count de Montijo, Spanish Ambassador in London. Now a member of Church of England; translates and writes pamphlets for government 'against Popery'. Copy of 'Te Deum' came from Pamphlet Shop in Strand. Does not know who prints Pretender's [Charles Edward Stuart's] declarations. Denies involvement with [Jacobite] Rebellion. Signed before Thomas Waite. Dated at Westminster [Middlesex].
