Description

Folios 9-10. John McMillan to Henry Potts of the General Post Office. Two gentlemen arrived with account of the siege of Carlisle [Cumberland]; Duke [of Cumberland] surrounding town, cannon being brought from Whitehaven [Cumberland]. No more than 200 rebels [Jacobites] left defending town. Marshal Wade's foot within seven miles of Carlisle, according to Captain Hubon. Received letter from Sir Everard Fawkener in Penrith. Seal. Dated at Post Office, Lancaster [Lancashire].
