Folios 184-185. Duke of Cumberland to Marshal Wade [copy]. Formerly enclosed in a letter from duke of Cumberland to duke of Newcastle, dated at Lancaster, 17 December 1745 [SP 36/77/1/175]. The rebels [Jacobites] had barely reached Kendal on 15 December 1745, not Carlisle, as Wade estimated. He would have reached the rebels [Jacobites] by now without the delay caused by the orders from London. Send the detachment of 1,000 men to Hexham as quickly as possible, as these may be needed if the rebels [Jacobites] make a stand in Carlisle. He has no information regarding Wade's Dutch troops. Dated at Lancaster.
