Folios 166-167. Marshal Wade to duke of Newcastle. He has sent to the mayor of Newcastle and Major General Huske asking them to detain the drummer in Newcastle. He will ask Count Nassau to make the same answer as himself. His army will face shortages of provisions, forage and quartering in Scotland. It will be difficult to dislodge the rebels [Jacobites] if they occupy the country between Berwick and Edinburgh, and difficult to find provisions if they cross the Firth [of Forth]. He has ordered meal and flour to be purchased but may have to write to London for further supplies and forage. After resting at Newcastle he will send regiments to Berwick, Alnwick and Morpeth and then on to Edinburgh. The quartering of the Dutch troops is creating difficulties. He doubts the cavalry will be able to pursue the rebels [Jacobites] beyond Kendal due to lack of provisions; his health. Dated at Rippon [Ripon].
