Folio 165. Earl Fitzwalter to [duke of Newcastle]. He has issued orders for the Essex coast to be watched, and requests swift notification of any invasion in order to release his men and prevent further expense. With postscript giving information received from a deputy lieutenant that a Dutch-built vessel with French and Irish troops has been sounding the coast of Rochford hundred and Foulness. Landing parties from the vessel have claimed to be buying oysters. Dated at Moulsham Hall.
