Description

Folios 105-108. Duke of Cumberland to duke of Newcastle. Expressing disappointment that [Admiral] Vernon's 'frights' have prevented Cumberland engaging and defeating the rebel [Jacobite] army. Enclosing details of the march route for the army's return. He will assemble the four new regiments for dispatch to Marshal Wade and then leave for London. He writes in a postscript that the rebels [Jacobites] began to leave Lancaster for Kendal last night. Enclosing an intelligence report [copy] from Mr Robert McMillan to the postmaster general, dated at Lancaster, 15 December 1745, observing the departure. Dated at Preston.
