Folios 44-45. John Sibald to Prince Charles [Edward Stewart]. Formerly enclosed in a letter from duke of Cumberland to duke of Newcastle, dated at Lancaster, 17 December 1745 [SP 36/77/1/175]. Part of a packet of letters found in the portmanteau of duke of Perth. Memorial of John Sibald, master of the ship Janet of Kinghorn. Last summer his ship was boarded in the Firth of Forth by James W Gill, who, after searching for papers or arms in favour of Prince Charles [Edwards Stewart] took the ship to Leith. Gill then unloaded the ship and took its goods to the Leith custom house. He requests that Prince Charles [Edward Stewart] order the release of the goods now in the custom house.
