Folios 79-84. Everard Fawkener to Duke of Newcastle. The person sent to London accompanying this messenger is dispatched due to fears that he may provide the rebels [Jacobites] with information. Dated at Wigan [Lancashire]. Enclosures:
1. Folios 80-81. Copy of a letter from Lord Lonsdale to Fawkener. Lonsdale expresses approval of Duke [of Cumberland's] pursuit of the rebels. Lonsdale is sending orders to the deputy lieutenants and justices of the peace in Westmorland and Cumberland to frustrate the rebels' progress, but is pessimistic due to the nature of the country. Cumberland will find it difficult to provision his army once past Kendal [Lancashire]. Lonsdale will write to Marshal Wade giving notice that Wade's commissaries may need to supply duke of Cumberland's army with bread from Yorkshire. Lonsdale fears that his health will prevent him from meeting Fawkener. Dated at Byrom 12 December 1745.
2. Folios 82-84. Details of the march route of the troops and train under Sir John Ligonier. Dated at Litchfield [Staffordshire]14 December 1745.
