Folios 62-67. Draft. Duke of Newcastle to Marshal Wade. Wade should inform the French drummer, who bore letters from Lord John Drummond to Wade, and the Dutch commander that you have informed the King and cannot yet respond. He is to detain the drummer. Count Nassau to answer similarly for the States General. Enclosing a letter from Duke of Cumberland to Duke of Newcastle and the latter's answer [not enclosed]. Also enclosing letters from Duke of Newcastle to Duke of Cumberland and Sir John Ligonier [not enclosed]. The King approves of Wade's march towards Newcastle [Northumberland] and the detachment of General Oglethorpe's horse. The King has ordered Wade to be reinforced and the Hessians to proceed to Edinburgh. The King is considering Wade's replacement due to illness. Enclosing a letter from Duke of Newcastle to the Lords Lieutenant of Yorkshire regarding recruitment [not enclosed]. Wade should order Major General Huske to prepare to depart for Edinburgh and take command there. Intelligence indicates an imminent invasion from Dunkirk. Enclosing a letter from Lieutenant General Handasyd [not enclosed]and Wade now to give relevant orders. Dated at Whitehall [Middlesex, London].
