Folio 50. Extract. Thomas North, a messenger, has stated that the Duke of Cumberland's army has halted at Scotsforth, within half a mile of Lancaster [Lancashire]. The rebels [Jacobites] are north of the town whilst 150 horse under the Duke of Perth went through Kendal with further accounts of villages being plundered. The Duke's army has reached Galgar [Galgate], within four miles of Lancaster. The road between Lancaster and Kendal is being barricaded. The rebels do not know the Duke's army is so near. Dated at Hornby Castle [Lancashire].
