Folio 91. Griffith Davies to Commissioners of the Customs. Stopped William Hill, a Roman Catholic, and his servant John Kerham [or Kirkham], from travelling to Holland and Flanders; Believes he is a spy. Their pass came from Lord Harrington's office 'by the interest of Lady Leicester'; Might be false. Enclosing six letters taken from Hill; One from Mr Knowles to Mr Van Hooff [Possibly SP 36/76/3/6], and five from T Phillips, 'popish' [Catholic] priest [Possibly SP 36/76/2/67, SP 36/76/2/70, SP 36/76/2/71, SP 36/76/2/101, and SP 36/76/3/5]. Dated at Customs House, Harwich [Essex]. Enclosures:
1. Folio 92. Accounts of William Hill and John Kerham. Hill states he is travelling to Holland on business for Robert Knowles; He has a pass. Kerham, born at Culcheth in Lancashire, believes Hill also plans to travel to Flanders. Dated at Harwich.
2. Folios 93-94. William Hill to Robert Knowles. Informing Knowles that his pass and commission did not satisfy officers at Harwich; He must act to 'forward' Hill's journey, or recall him. Dated at Harwich.
