Description

Folios 29 and 31. J Thornhagh to [Newcastle]. Apologising for false report of rebels [Jacobites] at Sheffield [Yorkshire]. Warrington bridge [Lancashire] broken down, preventing rebels marching to Chester; Believed rebels would take road to Sheffield or Chesterfield [Derbyshire] instead. Report of rebels at Sheffield from Dr Griffith, and in letter from S A Raines, principal apothecary, to Mr Bates of Worksop [Nottinghamshire]. Dated at Stilton [Cambridgeshire]. Enclosure:

1. Folio 30. Lady Mary Wentworth to Mr Thorney (or Thornhagh). News from Dr Griffith of rebels [Jacobites] in Manchester [Lancashire]; They had not gone to Sheffield. Men marching from Pontefract [Yorkshire] to Doncaster [Yorkshire]. Seal. Dated at Stilton, Sunday [1 December 1745].
