Selection and destruction information
All surviving reports have been selected for permanent preservation, though a large number of IR reports, and all except one OTP German diplomatic report, have not survived. All Government Code and Cypher School material from the Second World War is selected without review, under section 2.2.1.3 of the PRO acquisition policy.

Diplomatic Section was responsible for decyphering intercepted diplomatic wireless messages during the Second World War.
