The Commodity Division of the Intervention Board, and its successor the Internal Market Division, were responsible for the support buying, storing and sale or disposal of agricultural produce under the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Economic Community. As such these divisions were responsible for programmes such as the consumer subsidy on butter, and the use of intervention food as food aid to the developing world.
