European plants were selected from the general collection and moved into their own herbarium between 1911 and 1914, with the British specimens joining them in 1916. The new European Herbarium occupied the east central gallery on the 2nd floor of the Museum. In 1967 the collection was again divided, and the British Herbarium, in the east central gallery, was separated from the continental European collection, which moved to the west central gallery.
