Administrative / biographical background

The British Overseas Trade Board was formed in 1972 to direct and develop the Government's export promotion services and overseas finance and planning on behalf of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. The board consisted of businessmen and representatives from industry, the Department of Trade and Industry, Export Credits Guarantee Department, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Trade Union Congress. Its President was the Secretary of State for Trade.
