This series contains the correspondence of successive Palaeontology librarians. Letters deal with the donation, purchase and exchange of books and maps, bibliographical and general enquiries from palaeontologists and members of the public.

F A Bather, an Assistant who had a wide range of responsibilities among the invertebrate groups, was responsible for the Library from 1887 until about 1898. He was succeeded by R C Woolley (1898-1903), W H Broadbent (1904-c1941) and H D Scammell (1948-1964). A P Harvey was appointed to the post in 1964. In 1975 the Library and its staff became part of the newly created Department of Library Services.
